Theatre Costume

A selection of Plays, Pantomimes, Musicals and Operas that have used my designs
Plays

I have worked with various university drama societies and amateur companies on a wide range of productions and as Costume Designer I took responsibility for every aspect of the design, making, hiring, buying, fitting, maintenance and dressing process. Each different genre, period, cast size, resources and director's vision presented a different challenge but I was always able to provide suitable costumes on time and in budget.

Pantomime

I have designed, made and organised costumes for four pantomimes produced by York University's Pantomime Society. These productions normally have large casts of around 80 people, including at least one dame but often two. Despite the large nuber of people on stage, budgets are frequently very small and this requires clever buying, good organisation, plenty of initiative and a range of problem solving skills to make sure everyone has an appropriate costume to suit their often obscure character.

Musicals and Opera

The musicals and operas I have worked on have spanned a wide range of styles and periods. These productions normally have casts of around 30-40 people and often involve multiples of the same costume design. The budgets may be larger but so is the director's vision!
